Scouting in Taunton Deane!

Scouting is an extraordinary Movement. It has grown and developed since 1907 to become the largest youth organisation in the world. Scouting has stayed true to its fundamentals - fun with a purpose and education for life.

'We believe that through adventure we challenge individuals so that they learn and experience new things that enrich their lives'

TAUNTON DEANE SCOUT DISTRICT is very fortunate to have its own Camp Site at Huish Woods and to have our headquarters at Tangier Scout and Guide Centre, Castle Street, Taunton.

Taunton Deane Scout Shop (at Tangier) is open every Wednesday evening between 7 and 9pm during term time.  Ideal for all your uniform needs and all profits go into Scouting locally.

Volunters are the lifeblood of Scouting. We are looking for volunteers to work in all aspects of our provision, whether it is directly working with Young people or in a support role that enables our District to function. Interested? We provide all relevant training (and have fun as an added bonus!).

Bear Grylls (Chief Scout) says...

‘I think the great strength of the Scouts is that it’s a real family, it’s a really inclusive community and I found a second home there. I remember one of the first things I did was to be given one match and one raw sausage and told to go and cook it.

I remember looking at the match and looking at the sausage and thinking, it’s going to have to burn for a very long time! Then someone showed me how to make a fire and I thought at last, this is something I can really feel part of and enjoy. It wasn’t school but it was everything I loved. I look back and I realise it was those years that inspired what I love as a job now.’
